Host: Hello everyone! Welcome to our radio show, ASTRO FM! Today, we have a very special guest. Please welcome Mr. Galileo Galilei!

Audience: (clap)(cheer)(screaming)(whistling)

Galileo Galilei: Thank you, thank you! Hello everyone! My name is Galileo Galilei, and today I will discuss about my opinions, ideas, and discoveries.

Host: So Mr. Galilei, tell us about your discoveries. We would like to understand them a little better.

Galileo Galilei: Well, I have found out more about Nicolaus Copernicus's Heliocentric theory. Most people believe in the Geocentric theory, but I have recently proved that theory wrong.

Host: I don't want to sound stupid but what are the Heliocentric theory and the Geocentric theory?

Galileo Galilei: Well, Heliocentric theory is the sun-centered view of the whole universe. It means that the Sun is in the center with the other planets revolving around it. The Geocentric theory is the earth-centered view of the universe; it puts Earth as the center with everything else orbiting around it.

Host: I get it now! But Mr. Galilei, how has life been these days? I heard that you were having some trouble with the Church about your new theory.

Galileo Galilei: Well, I suspect that they are scared of my discoveries. My idea is apparently contradictory to the Church’s learning’s. In the Bible, it is said that God put the Earth at the center, so the popes stubbornly believe in the Geocentric theory. I believe that they fear that my work could weaken the Church’s authority. So I sadly had to take everything back. I am ashamed of how I couldn’t stand up for myself, but I’m really not in the mood for torture or death. I really wished they hadn’t put me under house arrest.

Host: Well, I’m very disappointed in the way things ended; I wish it could have been better. Sorry for changing the subject, but can you please tell us about your telescopes? There is news that you have created this interesting invention.

Galileo Galilei: Ahhh, the telescopes! How to begin?

Host: Mmm, could you start by describing to us how you come up with the idea to make telescopes?

Galileo Galilei: oh well, I heard that some man had made an invention to get a close up view of things. That inspired me to come up with the telescope. I am one of the first people to use a refracting telescope and also perfected a compound microscope.

Host: Very nice. Have they been of any use to your work?

G.G.: Any use?! Of course they have! The telescopes were probably the most important part of my all my observations. This device has been incredibly useful in letting me watch the heavenly bodies. They have also helped me to support the Heliocentric theory.

Host: Wow, I never knew the telescope could be so useful! And now, we will have a question from the audience! Yes, you sir in the gray shirt.

Audience #1: Mr. Galilei, I am a journalist and I am going to be writing an article on you. I would like you to tell us some background information about you, about your past and all your inspirations.

G.G.: I was born in Pisa as the first of six children of Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia Ammannati. At the age of 8, I moved to Florence, but I was left with Jacopo Borghini for two years. I then was educated in the Camaldolese Monastery at Vallombrosa, Although I seriously considered the priesthood as a young man, I enrolled for a medical degree at the University of Pisa at my father's urging. I did not complete this degree, but instead studied mathematics. In 1592, I moved to the University of Padua, teaching geometry, mechanics, and astronomy until 1610. During this period I made significant discoveries in both pure science and applied science.

Host: Okay y’all! That’s it for today! Listen to us again next time!
